Presentation Skills
This intensive one-day workshop is aimed at people who wish to develop their skills at delivering presentations. It is assumed that the participants have a working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint or another delivery medium.
The workshop is divided into four sections as follows:
Understanding the Purpose of Presentations
This part of the workshop introduces the participants to communication theory and covers the following key topics:
- Appreciate that the meaning of any message is the response it elicits.
- Know your audience well - their current opinions and knowledge
- Understand that every group is different
- Coping with different learning styles.
Venue and Equipment Preparation
This second part of the workshop (typically mid-morning) emphasises the importance of being familiar with the venue and presentation equipment.
Presentation Content Design
This section introduces the participants to a structured framework to prepare presentation content. Key topics include:
- Using stories and anecdotes
- Images
- Managing text on slides
- Graphs and charts.
Delivery Techniques
The final section covers the such key topics as:
- Body language
- Managing attention spans
- The importance of the beginning
- Delivering a polished conclusion
- Design of Handouts.
Participants are supplied with a comprehensive training manual which covers all topics featured in the workshop.
